The start of college can be very stressful. You're in a new place, with new people, trying to fit in and make good grades all at the same time. Everyone tells you it will be the best 4 years of your life, but the first month can be a hard adjustment. Here are some tips to make your experience the best possible!

FRIENDS

Making friends is usually the thing freshman are most nervous about. The good news is everyone is in the same boat! A good tip when in your dorm is leave the door open. People will walk up and down the hall and they're likely to walk in, say hi and make plans. Many people make their best friends in their dorm or on their floor. Another tip is to find friends in the same major as you, which allows you to attend classes and study together. Finally, if your school has Greek Life, that's such a fun, easy way to meet new people. Through rush, you'll make connections with girls that may end up in a different sorority, which is a good thing! Once you find your fit, you'll have friends in your new sisters!

SCHOOL

As much fun as college is, it's important to remember the reason you're here: SCHOOL. Our top recommendation is to stay on top of your course work. As soon as you miss one assignment, the rest will pile up and you will quickly fall behind. A planner is a great way to stay organized, either digital or hand written, and avoid any confusion with taking multiple classes. Another trick is to use sticky notes on your computer. You'll see instant reminders of all upcoming assignments, important dates, tests, etc!

SPIRIT

No matter what size school you attend, it's always fun to have school spirit! Getting involved is a great way to find out more about your school and make friends. Whether its joining an intramural sport or running for student government, there are endless ways to get involved. Even simply attending a sports game with a group of friends is a fun activity!

NIGHT LIFE

College gives you a lot of freedom you probably didn't have in high school. However, with that freedom comes responsibility, especially if you decide to go out. The number one rule is to always stay together. It can be repetitive, especially hearing it from every adult you come in contact with, but it's true! It's also important to take care of yourself and not go out every night. Take it easy, study hard and the rest will fall in place!
