We are just a few days away from the new year- and the new decade! As we step into this new era, there’s a few ways you can set yourself up for success in achieving your fitness goals. As so many of us know, getting your dream body is no easy task. It takes time, patience, consistency, and commitment. It can feel like you aren’t making any progress or seeing results fast enough, which is why many people give up. Don’t worry, there are several things you can do to keep yourself motivated and positive! Toss those New Year fitness resolutions that you can never seem to stick to, and try these tips instead!

Be realistic

Don’t expect a six-pack after a week of working out! Instead of focusing on your end goal and feeling defeated, focus on your week-to-week improvements. You’ll be much more inclined to stay motivated when you see the progress you ARE making, not what you don’t have quite yet.

The scale is just a number

It’s just a number, and there’s so many factors that go into your body weight (water weight, muscle, time of day, etc.). Instead of stressing about the number, focus on what you see. It’s totally fine to weigh yourself every week or two, but try to avoid doing it every day. Don’t worry about the number on the scale if you like what you see in the mirror!

Treat yourself to an off-day, or a cheat day

It’s going to happen! You don’t have to be perfect 100% of the time. To avoid feeling guilty about these things, plan ahead! Decide what days you’re going to workout/not workout and when you’re taking a food cheat day. Consistency is key, and if you hit all your workout goals throughout the week, treat yourself! Planning off-days and cheat days keeps you feeling on schedule.

Focus on you

Your day 1 could be their day 100. Everyone’s body works differently so don’t beat yourself up over that. Focus on you, and don’t stress if it seems like others are seeing results faster. It’s all relative!

Workouts can be FUN

Nothing is worse than viewing working out as a chore or something you have to force yourself to do. If running is your thing, run! If you prefer weightlifting, go for it! If you rather have a ‘sneaky’ workout, dance or go for a hike through your favorite nature spot. Whatever you find relieves your stress and gets your heart pumping is completely up to you. There’s only one rule to fitness: have fun!

*Bonus Tip*

Sometimes a cute workout outfit can be the pick-me-up you need when you’re struggling with staying on top of your fitness routine.
